Sophie Visits Queenswood School
Sophie Lindsay, School Membership Manager, was invited to visit our new member school Queenswood.
After the last two very challenging years of the pandemic, and with the new Standards for Boarding Schools imminent, it is a perfect moment to be able to visit our member schools, spend time with staff and find out how they are supporting their international students. Yesterday I was hosted by Queenswood School – one of our newest members, and spent a day exploring their stunning site, which occupies an impressive 120 acres of parkland in Hertfordshire.
The facilities and the sheer amount of space available at Queenswood are highly impressive. There is a well-designed, spacious feel to every corner of the school, and every aspect of life there has its own dedicated hub, from Art and DT, to Drama, Sport, EAL teaching and Learning Support. This obviously not only helps them offer girls the very best in terms of facilities, it has also helped the school to navigate COVID successfully, with plenty of room to isolate unwell students and to be flexible about classroom space. Perhaps most impressive of all are the new Sixth Form Facilities, designed to create a ‘university’ style atmosphere to help girls bridge the gap between school and the big wide world.
International students are obviously at the heart of everything we do, and I visited Queenswood not just to talk about international students, but, importantly to meet them. The school prides itself on its academic results, but also on its progressive, positive attitude and happy girls. I enjoyed a long chat with some sixth form students – one of whom had joined Queenswood from Mainland China in Year 8, and it was really heartening to see how invested and ambitious they were. In a conversation that touched on academics, friends, guardians, plans for the future, Frida Kahlo and STEM, I was delighted to see such confidence, motivation and positivity.
Thank you, Queenswood for a lovely day – and what lucky girls!
